Introduction

‘Leħen il-Belt Victoria' is a community radio that transmits on frequency 104MHz FM Stereo. It broadcasts all the year round on full or reduced schedules. Full schedules, of about four to six weeks each, are offered in the seasons of (1) September-October when school open and the parish year begins, (2) December-January for the Christmas holidays, (3) March-April for Easter and St George’s Day as well as (4) June-July for the annual patronal Festa of St George.

In between these four periods of full schedule, programmes continue to be broadcast on a reduced schedule form, daily between 16 and 20 hours. At t the heart of our station’s schedules lies the daily transmission of Holy Mass and prayers, live, from St George’s basilica. Please see the schedule page for a timetable.

The aim of this website is to keep our internet listeners informed and, in the case of Maltese and Gozitan migrants, in touch with their parish, town and families.

‘Leħen il-Belt Victoria' serves from within St George’s Parish Community and for many years it was substantially dependent on the Parish finances for its funding. Now it mostly funds itself through advertisements and the generous contributions of its listeners.

Advertisements are indeed accepted and these go a long way to cover its running costs and some capital expenditure. With the addition of monthly contributions by a number of people, a lift has just been installed in the building where the stations are found, in the Parish Centre on St George’s Square, mostly for the benefit of our elderly volunteers.

Suggestions for schedule improvement as well as donations are welcome and appreciated. They may be sent to: "Radju Leħen il-Belt Victoria", Ufficcju Parrokkjali, Bazilika San Gorg, Victoria, Gozo, Malta.

Message from the Archpriestmalteseenglish

ArchiprietI would like to greet all the collaborators of the radio station Leħen il-Belt Victoria together with all of you who listen to us on the radio or view us on the internet. A warm welcome and thanks to you all.

The radio station Leħen il-Belt Victoria is the voice for the community of St George. It teaches us how to recognise and understand Christ while we listen to the word of the Pope and that of our Bishop, while helping our love for the Church and this community to grow. Our community includes both those living in Malta and those living abroad.

Pope Benedict XVI teaches us that the Christian way of life that follows the Gospel’s teaching “is not merely a communication of things that can be known; it is one that makes things happen and is life-changing” (Spe salvi 2).

The radio station provides opportunities within the parish for relationships to be built in various ways, particularly through speech… speech which is somehow created to resemble the eternal “Word” of God in whom everything was created in freedom and love. This “Word” did not remain alone but “was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (Jhn 1:14), and in His love, shown and given to us in Christ, invites people into a relationship with Him and with each other in a new way.

Let us support our radio station so that we are able to answer the call of St Paul: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season”, and carry out the mission with which Christ has entrusted us: that we spread the Word of God to all nations (cfr Mt 28:19). This work, which requires endless patience, is the way in which we take part in the apostolic mission of the Church.

Let us pray for intervention of our patron and protector St George in this important mission. Heartfelt thanks go out to all the collaborators of Leħen il-Belt Victoria and to all you listeners.

God bless.
